Alrighty blogosphere, let’s get this started.
I think I will post every single day. It will be my mission! I can’t guarantee it will be something spectacular but whatevs.
We had RUF tonight! I would like to say that RUF is totally the best thing to be involved in. You make tons of friends, it’s easy to fit in, and you get to read the Word and worship the Lord! What can be better?! Not to mention the activities that go on besides large group. I’m bummed I will be missing waffle night but there is always next time!
Anyways, today we went over Psalm 51. Ryan is so good at explaining things and making you think! He said a lot tonight that was fantastic and I wish I had recorded it and I could just post it on here!
Psalm 51 - “Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to yourabundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you may be justified in your words
and blameless in your judgment.
5Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being,
and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
13Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.
14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
15O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
18 Do good to Zion in your good pleasure;
build up the walls of Jerusalem;
19then will you delight in right sacrifices,
in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.”
So, David is asking for repentance here. What sticks out the most is in verse 5 he points out that from the day he was CONCEIVED he was a sinner and has always needed God. Who wants to willingly admit they need help? Not only do we need help and mercy in trying times but we need it every single day of our lives!!!
Mercy is defined as: Compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.
The only thing we sinners deserve from God is death and yet He gives us life. We constantly disobey Him and yet He pursues us and shows us His love. Our God is merciful!!!
Ryan made a good point tonight.
Why are we all so shocked when we hear that someone who we thought was so good has done something bad?
David was a man after God’s own heart! That is what the bible says, right there in Acts 13:22
David was so great and yet he broke half of the ten commandments! He lied, stole, envied, cheated, and murdered!!!!! This wonderful king who everyone thought was so great performed these things!
Every one of us is capable of doing these things. We are sinners and we all have those despicable seeds of sin inside us. We shouldn’t be surprised that Tiger Woods has had multiple affairs because he is a sinner and he is capable of doing sinful acts. All of us are.
There was just so much that Ryan went over tonight that made you think!!!
I hope you enjoyed the summary I have here haha. Maybe someone will read it :)
Also, check out the song Beautiful Scandalous Night
It’s pretty fantastic.
I suppose that’s it for now :)
